Did John Muir ever give a list of everything he carried with him while exploring the backcountry? Aside from matches, tea, crackers, and a notebook I'm curious about the full extent he took "going light".

I know I'm not alone in feeling a special affinity for this man. But I have to admit, it takes me longer than 90 seconds to pack for my excursions. smiling smiley

Today he would have to carry a bear canister.

Apparently he slept on bare ground? Or did he carry a blanket?

"I rolled up some bread and tea in a pair of blankets with some sugar and a tin cup and set off."

I guess he took a few blankets at least. Wonder what he'd have thought of a Thermarest? smiling smiley

"Muir set out for the summit of Mt. Ritter, a crust of bread fastened to his belt" - You'd have thought that
crust of bread would have easily fallen off his belt, what with all that talus-scrambling he did...
