Re: Tuolumne Meadows in Mid June or other suggestions

I have never been out to Yosemite and have been planning a trip for the past few months. I will be out there in mid June. A few months back I got permits for Cathedral Lakes and planned on doing a 2 night hike from TM to Yosemite Valley. I do not have the right gear to trek in snow. Do you think I will encounter much snow this year in mid June starting at TM?

Alternatively, what would you suggest for a yosemite newbie who has 2-3 nights and wants to do some trekking/backpacking in mid June.

There will be snow. It may have compacted enough by then to just walk on.
However, by afternoon you might just be having postholing fun.
This year... in mid June... I'd expect nearly 100% snow coverage from Upper Cathedral
all the way until you start the big descent down the JMT S of Sunrise Mtn.
Maybe Glen Aulin then.
I think there's still about 4 ft. of snow at TM.

Even without postholing walking on sun cups can be really "fun" after a few miles.
