The county is tired of being sued:

Great!! Deaths and law suits means road gets improved! Wish that were always the case! It is not in my neck of the woods.
But hopefully it will not change the CA Vehicle Code specific to the Old Priest Grade:

35715.1. (a) The County of Tuolumne may by ordinance prohibit the
use of Old Priest Grade in that county by a vehicle or combination of
vehicles that exceeds a weight limit of 7,500 pounds or more. The
weight limit shall be determined by the County Board of Supervisors
and specified in the ordinance.

The Old Priest Grade is such a nice short cut.

Hope they don't ruin the drive up/down the grade too much.

The new guard rail will obstruct the view.
I don't see how they're going to widen the road much without making large cuts into the mountain side.
It's still going to be just as steep and hard on brakes going downhill.
The corners will still be just as tight.

All they'll be preventing is people driving off the road and tumbling down the mountain side.

Had a relative who worked at Moccasin powerhouse - saw a guy going up Old Priest one fine morning in winter, in a big ol' Ford pickup. Said the pickup did this slick 180o turn, zip! and then made its way slowly back down... it gets pretty icy sometimes.

We always went up Old Priest unless we had a travel trailer. You can still see various bits of cars down in the brush... not for everyone, but definitely quicker to get up the hill.
