Average Tioga Pass closing dates
July 30, 2010 09:43AM
Hey all,

What are the average dates for Tioga Pass closure? (or maybe given this year's wierd weather we should not even hazard guessing).

I want to plan a loop trip for about 3 days from Sunrise TH back to Cathederal Lakes TH via Cloud's Rest in Sept.

Any takers?

Oct 17 seems to be the earliest in the last 30 years, although Nov-Dec seems to be typical.

Closure is when it snows good, but they ban overnight parking on the pass sooner than that so if it storms while you're hiking, you won't have your car buried in snow til spring thaw... sometime in October, I think.

I believe overnight parking is banned from at least October 15th on. This includes Glacier Point Road.

The Tioga Road corridor gets closed to overnight parking on 15 October.

Also, here is a link to the opening/closing dates back to 1933:

Chick-on has no imagination - he stole/photoshopped the frame from my kiwis and inserted his own multi-cloned photos.
(They say that imitation is the highest form of flattery... but, in this case, it might be some form of damnation.)

Mine is like doze images where you stare at it and a foto appears.
If you stare long enough at mine you will see Half Dome.

actually we have been pre-empted...he changed his avatar to a head shot...maybe he's gonna take up professional modeling, any outdoor modeling locations from now on that are over 10,000 ft will have Chick-on as their spokemodel...he does have remarkable linguistic skillz
