The Inyo National Forest, Mono Lake Ranger District, is soliciting comments on the proposed action for the Mono Basin Grazing Allotments Environmental Assessment (EA). The proposed action would authorize continued livestock grazing on the Dexter Creek, June Lake, and Mono Mills sheep and goat allotments, along with the Mono Sand Flat cattle and horse allotment. The proposed action is designed to maintain or improve trends in vegetation, watershed conditions, and ecological sustainability relative to livestock grazing by incorporating adaptive management strategies on the allotments.

The grazing allotments within the project area stretch from the northeastern shore of Mono Lake to the northern slope of the Glass Mountains. They are bounded on the west by U.S. Highway 395 and on the east by Dexter Canyon. The complete proposed action is available in hard copy format or can be viewed on the Inyo National Forest website at http://www.fs.fed.us/nepa/project_content.php?project=31748. To obtain a copy of the proposed action please contact April Barron at 760-924-5532 or abarron@fs.fed.us.

Written, facsimile, hand-delivered, oral, and electronic comments concerning this action will be accepted for 30 calendar days following the publication of the legal notice in The Inyo Register. The publication date (anticipated Oct 23, 2010) of the legal notice in the newspaper of record (The Inyo Register) is the exclusive means for calculating the comment period for this analysis. Those wishing to comment should not rely upon dates or timeframe information provided by any other source. The regulations prohibit extending the length of the comment period.
