For immediate release.

Clovis, CA (May 6, 2011)...The Sierra National Forest is planning on conducting a prescribed burn in the vicinity of Blue Canyon south of Shaver Lake, estimated to take 3-4 weeks to complete this 2,100 acre project.

It is not anticipated that any communities will be affected by the smoke; however, the smoke may be visible from certain locations on the forest. The burn is located four miles south-east of the town of Shaver Lake and four miles east of the Mountain Rest Forest Service Fire Station.
Prescribed fires are a necessary management tool for use in our national forests; they reduce fuel build up, recycle nutrients and maintain forest health. Prescribed fires are ignited by trained personnel under conditions that will meet land management objectives. These conditions include specific weather parameters, fuels (vegetation) conditions and smoke dispersion conditions.
