Is that fairly new big showerhouse at Curry still closed (due to the rock slides last year)? If so is there another place at Curry to shower besides the showers at the pool?

There are a few showers spread around Curry Village for the residents. You can also try Housekeeping camp. Not sure if your particular shower is opened though.
