Not quite! At least today they marked it closed 3/4 mile short of the pass, at the USFS Tioga Lake overlook.

That's where it's been closed when I've gone up there in previous years. I parked the car and walked to the gate and back. I guess 3/4 of a mile is close enough for government work.

I remember one Memorial Day weekend where the closure was at the Dana Meadows parking area just inside the NPS gate. Not sure how long ago that was.

And it was closed there today. I would have walked up to the pass but the snow was falling parallel to the ground.

Wow, winter's back already! Boy, that was a short summer!

Both lakes were completely frozen over and towering snow lined the road near the pass. Tioga Pass Resort had a snow blower on the roof.

I hope to use my High Sierra Camps loop reservations nine weeks from now. Is this much snow really going to be melted away by then?

Absolutely, it's possible (and maybe even probable) that enough snow would be gone by then to have the camps open by the time of your reservations.

Though there's still a possibility that the camps still could be closed. IIRC, one year in the not too distant past, a number of HSC camps never opened up for the summer season because of lingering snow due to a very cool spring and summer.

They've already said at least some won't be open until August.

Wow. Thanks for the info.

Our local weather dude just said he doesn't see a change in the weather pattern for at least a week, maybe two. Look for another 6 " in the upper elevations Sun/Mon.

Never ending WIND here on the east side.
