According to the Name Places in Yosemite book... Origin of name : unknown

So... I always wondered why the name.

I found out last weekend:

Thought it was so cool I'd share.

Wanna see it? Answer is: Go to T20 (and then hike the old road/pullout and go a bit for the view of Half Dome)

That looks pretty climbable. Its got some nice lines. How tall do you think it is, from base to top?

If you're thinking of climbing it, here's a trip report and discussion about it on Supertopo.com:

Visited these last weekend. Cross country and bush whacking was VERY minimal.
(actually you can avoid ALL shrub by staying in trees to west and hit it from top)
Very very very easy class 3 to get to top of highest rock. Great views.
But... if you go there and are not a climber... do yourself a favor and take a trek
up to 10033 . More "coyote" type rock features (they abound around Hoffmann area)...
and a very cool plateau area with incredible views. After getting up to Coyote rock
area the rest to 10033 is almost flat (hahaha).

Ha, Ha, that's right!

Only you would think an almost 1,000 foot elevation gain as "almost flat". wink

Nice photo. I see a coyote in the rock formation -- but also a hound dog. (The hound dog is the one with the big floppy ears.) wink

Ryan, Peter showed you a picture... but not of not Coyote Rocks...

I don't think there are any bolts on either rock.

Here's what the lower rock looked like:

I like this one b/c a Raven was so kind to perch atop it. (and it has some big famous rock in it)
