The Mono Lake Tufa State Natural Reserve, which was established in 1982, is one of 70 parks, historic buildings and monuments that California State Park officials plan to close by the end of June 2012. It means the reserve's 30th anniversary would be celebrated with the equivalent of a bullet to the back of the head.

Visited the Mono Lake committee visitor's center last week, they had petitions for us to sign to keep it open. Frankly, I am not sure what impact it will have if they "close" it. They can't put a fence around the lake. All that will really close is the fancy federal visitor center north of town. To say the efforts of the committee will be undone is sensationalism at its best. (or worst)
