With 5000+ views of Half Dome Death... should be able to conjur up 100 votes.

Or is this site really that obscure?

So far it looks like only one person I don't know has been there. Amazing

I think the 'views' number here increments each time someone views a thread, not just each unique person viewing the thread. So, more posts to the Half Dome thread means people viewing it again reading the updates, incrementing the 'views' count.

Got any 'I Voted' stickers to hand out to those of us who voted?

No, it's just the same small group of people reading, and rereading, and rereading, and rereading that thread. wink

Well... if you clicky on home... you can see the number of abusers..
(it was 89 when I just lookied)
So... getting 100 votes should be fairly simple...

Picasa has number of views... and there is Google Analytics... so
it's actually pretty simple to figure out if I can hear Echoes...

Anyway, I got my Sticker:

So far data indicate about 25% of the population really have no idea about what they want and just over 10% are actually crazy.

How about an option for "I didn't know where it is until you mentioned it...now I want to go!"

For anybody still confused it's about 7.2 miles north of the Pate Valley junction in the Grand Canyon. Approaching that way takes you up the most grueling switchbacks in Yosemite as bill-e-g reports. Another approach is via the Rodgers Canyon route coming down from the the Pacific Crest trail near the Smedburg lake junction. It's a good distance from any roadside trailheads. One can also get there from Hetch Hetchy via the Rancheria trail.

Wouldn't it be easier to arrive at Table Lake via an amphibious seaplane? wink

Nope. I'd have to put something together. I had a bunch of stuff for some guy that wanted to
traverse the entire Piute... but I deleted it after I determined I was wasting my time again.

So...what's most special about this place for you? Its isolation? Nearby views of the Tuolumne Canyon? ?

You and I have both posted more spectacular pictures here (and I joined here in Nov. so you may have already answered...). Sometimes a place is special for other reasons.

You know, honestly, there are a zillion places in Yosemite that are perhaps more spectacular.

It all came about because on an 11 day trip back in 1999, The Old Dude, my wife, and bill-e-g
stayed by Table Lake in early August. It was hot there... and it can get kinda of dusty...
and I guess after Smedberg and beautiful Rodgers Lake, Neall Lake, and Rodgers Meadow,
Table Lake just didn't measure up to them. Add to that that Old Dude was a wee bit tired after
hiking all that distance... and him and the wife ganged up on Billy and turned it into trashing
Table Lake... and it has become the poster child for anything that isn't super spectacular
in Yosemite... this continued for MANY years... too many...
So that is where it started.

In 2007 Old Dude and Billy along with OD's Son in Law went back to Table Lake and the agreement
was that OD would quit trashing the lake if it was nice. Since it was May and there were
no bugs to speak of... it was gorgeous... but I'm not sure OD wouldn't even admit to it even
though there is photographic proof. So it's kind of turned into "It's as nice as Table Lake" or
"It's not as nice as Table Lake"... which can mean it's truely incredible... or just incredible... wink
(or it sucks bad or sucks really bad... depending on who is talking)

I get sort of defensive of the place when people trash it... there's so much variety in the
park and so much to explore that is different.
I've said it so many times... but so much great stuff is off the trail...
I'll post something soon I just ran across that is pretty cool...

Anyway, that's pretty much the story on Loch Tablae... if you search all dates on this forum
you'll probably find a lot of sillyness w/r to Table Lake/Loch Tablae

As for the other lakes in that area... Saddle Horse is really nice.. and Irwin Bright is imo
the 3rd nicest lake in Pleasant Valley area. I can say more if there is interest perhaps.
One thing that has been on my list is to finish the traverse all the way to Benson from
Saddle Horse... and then boat to the Beach... too much stuff to do.. and time flies though...

Have fun out der

Lake 10400+ east of Evelyn was the first backpacking night I spent in Yosemite, back in the late 1980s. With my tent huddled against a small clump of whitebark pines. I still think its special.

In the wife and Old Dude's defense...

But... I'm pretty sure this was one of those cases where Billy wanted to go find a better
spot but got smacked by the other two to just camp here. Nowadayz Billy will spend
as much time as is required to find a nice spot with a view and we only camp by
a firepit if there is pretty much nothing else around.

Old Dude is prob. not commenting due to he prob. is using the "flat" mode and misses all this.
