It's "The Dome Formerly Known as Marmut Dome"
(Marmot Dome)

Did enough climbing on this trip... so lazed out...
Next year want to visit a whole lotta more of these.

This direction:

(It's hidden by Fairview)
(In other words... you can't see Medlicott... so you can't see... )

There is also a link below provided by eeeeeeek to closedcontour.
I kinda gave up asking for more b/c it seemed I was the only turkey excited about it.

There's a nice view of Doda and Daff from a small pullout along Tioga. I'll post a pict.
of Doda and the erratic atop it... eeek asked about that.

Is that Tuolumne Meadows behind Chick-On?
And behind Chick-On, at the 2 o'clock position, is that Lembert Dome?

Here's a slightly different angle. Many have been up Pothole... there it is, right in the left foreground
along with the road.

Very cool. No bench marker on there either, huh? Is there an official online registry that tells us which peaks/summits have markers on them?

Park at Pothole Dome parking area (or just east of there) and do this:

Took a look at this route on Thursday...too much snow/ice...north facing slope and all. But I'll be heading up there next year.

So I took my first (!) hike up Pothole Dome. Why I had never been up there yet...I don't know.

Looks too puny – unimpressive – from the road, perhaps?

That was my exact thinking. "Bleah, it's only a couple hundred feet or so above the road. How good could the views possibly be?" Went up there for the first time this year, and was stunned.

With only a foot o snow you can just stay in the trees... and it's safe. Of course you post hole thru early snow so maybe
not your cup o tea. wink Anywho, yeah... Pothole Dome is SOOO underrated. It doesn't look like it would have
such great views from there.... but ... well.. you know.

Have fun

I walked straight up the south side of Pothole, but went down the easier slope on the east to check it out. It is a hike that my increasingly slacker family can manage. With surprising views.

(In September, they sent me off to hike by myself, while they held down the fort at camp, and I was only going to Elizabeth Lake!)

Last year, on Nov 17th, I walked east up from Olmstead Point. Don't know if that is a named dome. A bit more snow last year. Again gained some good views.

Is there a trail from Pothole Dome back to the campground, along the river?

East? If really east then that would be the BM 8664. I've never heard of a name for it.
And that is a steep going from Olmsted.
The one north of Olmsted, tann showed some pix from there recently.
For the east one... I showed some pix from there here:

or
simply

From here just fabulous views... it's on my list to get my booty up there next year
and spend some time... and watch them do some blasting....

Not that I know of.
Re: Taking Back The Dome

Yes, of course it was north. I'm thinking alongside east/westbound 120, which heads NE at that point. So I just walked up higher and higher until the granite started dropping off in the direction of Tenaya Lake. Good tele view of Conness, even Sawtooth Ridge.

Ha, any blasting would be right below...

Yes, that is a beautiful view from 8664

IMO the view from Marmut is purty kewl... great view of TM.
Was going to try getting up Fairview on way back Sat...
and then say you got leap-frogged... and now you have to go up
Lamb to continue the process...
but instead ended up Dozier, Medlicott, and Mariuolumne.
Here's Mariuolumne from the unnamed domage just east of
Medlicott:

Me Likey Domes!

Me too. Especially on that Cathedral granite. I scrambled a few steps up Fairview...enough...being alone and all...

Hopefully will get in another drive up there before the road closes. Heck, maybe, (but hopefully not,) 120 will be open for our rez in the valley in February.
