...Winter weather advisory in effect from 8 pm this evening to
8 am pdt friday above 6000 feet...

The national weather service in hanford has issued a winter
Weather advisory above 6000 feet for snow and gusty winds...
Which is in effect from 8 pm this evening to 8 am pdt friday for
The southern sierra nevada from yosemite national park to kings
Canyon.

* snow accumulations: 4 to 7 inches above 6000 feet with 1 to 4
Inches possible at lower elevations.

* timing: onset of accumulating snow will begin after 8 pm this
Evening with the heaviest snowfall occurring between midnight
And 6 am friday.

* locations include: shaver lake...Huntington lake...Tuolumne
Meadows...Tioga pass.

* winds: southwest to west 25 to 40 mph along the crest with local
Gusts to 75 mph this evening.

* impacts: snow-covered roads with winterlike driving conditions...
Possible chain requirements and travel delays.


Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A winter weather advisory means that periods of snow will cause
Travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited
Visibilities...And use caution while driving.

...Dramatically cooler and unsettled weather on the way...

A storm system that originated in the gulf of alaska will bring
A big change in the weather to the central california interior
Tonight and friday.

In the tehachapi mountains...Accumulating snow will fall above
The passes late tonight with local amounts of an inch or two
Possible by daybreak. The snow level will fall to the higher
Elevations of the grapevine and tehachapi pass friday with light
Accumulations on the major highways.

Temperatures friday afternoon will average 10 to 15 degrees below
Normal. High temperatures in the san joaquin valley will be no
Higher than the 50s friday...Making it the coldest day since the
First week of april in many localities.

Another storm system will bring a renewed chance of light rain
And higher elevation snow to the central california interior by
Late saturday night into sunday with a continuation of well below
Normal temperatures.

I think you could be right. It is getting late in the season and they probably would not want to plow if the snow does not melt quickly. I wonder if these weather systems with early snow means that we are in for another huge snow amounts this winter.

Three Roads in Yosemite National Park to Temporarily Close Overnight
The Tioga, Glacier Point, and Mariposa Grove Roads Temporarily Closed
Due Winter Weather Advisory

The Tioga Road (Highway 120 east of the Crane Flat Gas Station), the
Glacier Point Road, and the Mariposa Grove Road in Yosemite National Park
will be temporarily closing tonight, Thursday, November 3, 2011, at 8:00
p.m. A winter weather advisory has been issued and will be in effect from
8:00 p.m. this evening until 8:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. Up to seven
inches of snow is expected above 6,000 feet in elevation. Temperature lows
are expected to be 11° Fahrenheit tonight, and 5° Fahrenheit by Friday
night.

All roads are expected to be reassessed for opening by midday tomorrow,
Friday, November 4, 2011.

The closure is not expected to impact the Wawona Road (Highway 41), the Big
Oak Flat Road (Highway 120 west of the Crane Flat Gas Station), the El
Portal Road (Highway 140), or roads within Yosemite Valley. All roads
within the park are subject to chain control or temporary closures due to
hazardous driving conditions. Tire chains may be required at any time
during the fall and winter season. It is strongly recommended that all
motorists carry tire chains while driving in the park during the fall and
winter months.

For updated 24-hour road and weather conditions for Yosemite National Park,
please call 209-372-0200.

An announcement will be made tomorrow pending additional road closure
changes.
