Re: Traffic Delays for Tree Removal--Wawona Road--South Entrance Station Kiosk Area

Starting December 13th through the 16th: Expect up to 15-minute delays as crews will be removing trees around the South Entrance Station kiosks. This work is part of a safety improvement project to re-establish the former exit lane located just west of the existing South Entrance Station kiosks. Once the lane is re-established, it will allow the south-bound traffic to exit before the existing intersection and avoid collisions with the existing kiosks.

From what I see, most of the collisions with the booths are buses in the incoming lanes. The little one near the restrooms is hit at least once a month by a bus. Hopefully they'll make the lanes wider with the removal of a few trees.

Or at least they should put some bus drivers on the rack.

maybe shorter buses? Aren't they already limited to 45' ?

Actually, they need better drivers. Most tour bus drivers can't stay within the standard lane width anyway.

Was it either this (or last) year that a lot of tour bus drivers were cited by the CHP and Park Rangers in a crackdown operation that was conducted inside of Yosemite National Park?

I don't know about anything directed specifically at the drivers, but the park in cooperation with the CHP has a program of random bus inspections. Several buses have been taken out of service.
