TR: Gaylor lakes and Tuolumne Meadows
June 04, 2012 12:47PM
Just got back from a weekend trip to Tuolumne Meadows and Gaylor Lake.

We stayed at the TM tent cabins. They were roomy, and we fortunately snagged one next to the river. Two minor inconveniences: you couldn't "prepare food" anywhere on the premises (we made the short drive to Lembert Dome parking lot to cook), and bear boxes for food storage are next to the parking lot a hundred yards from the cabin. Despite this, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely go back again.

Gaylor lake was still half frozen, but there wasn't much snow, even above 10k feet.

The mosquitos weren't that bad, perhaps the cold memorial day weekend delayed their onslaught a bit. I actually received the most bites at olmstead pt.

We wanted to do a short hike to May Lake on June 3rd, but the road was still gated, so we went to Lukens Lake instead.

Below are a few pictures from the trip.

Gaylor Lake

View to the North from Pothole Dome. Not much snow out there.

Nice.

You showed why I think Pothole trumps Lamebert Dome.

Glad you had fun and Tanks for Sharon.

Because it has a stellar view of Lembert Dome of course.

I'm yoking.

Anyone should be able to get up Pothole. Simple trek to the top even for people
with any inkling of being afraid of heights. It has stellar views of Tuolumne Meadows.
It has stellar views of Marmot, Fairview and other domes. Stellar Views of
Falls Ridge and Glen Aulin Domes/area. etc. etc.
It will always have few people at the top. And it has incredible examples of
both erratics and glacial polish.

Something like that
