...Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms...

There will be scattered showers and an isolated thunderstorm
Through noon today for the san joaquin valley, foothills,
Tehachapi mountains, and along the southern sierra nevada
Mountains.

Use caution while driving today. The light rain showers are occurring
In areas that have not seen rain for months. This will create slick
Driving conditions when the rain begins to mix with the build up of
Oils and dust on roads.

I can confirm that it rained in Tuolumne...

I can also confirm that there was about a mile of vehicles lined up to get in at Tioga Pass yesterday... (!)

They really need to stop spending 10 minutes answering questions one car.

It's not very "Green" of them to cause all that needless congestion at the gate.

(I always wonder what exactly are they conserving about that takes so long. Is the ranger giving them a complete itinerary of what to do and what to see?)

I think the most common question is: "What is there to do in Yosemite?", followed by "Are there mosquitoes here?".

I worked entrance stations at the South Entrance of Yosemite and the East Entrance of Yellowstone; the most common question is, "Where's the best place to go?" In Yellowstone, that was followed by, "Wheah are da beahs?" The good news on weather is that we're receiving monsoonal moisture in the northern Rockies that is helping the fire index.

Tourist: “Where are the best places to go?”

Ranger: “Yosemite Valley, Glacier Point, the Mariposa Grove of Giants Sequoias”

Tourist: “How do I get there”

Ranger: “Here's the map. They're all listed there. Have a nice day and drive safely.”

The exchange shouldn't take more than an additional minute, not the additional five to ten minutes some drivers stay at the booth. wink

By the way, ”Wheah are da beahs?”

In Chicago!

That should be responded to with a map showing the location of the visitor center.

Unfortunately, the Yosemite Valley Vistor Center isn't that easy for newcomers to Yosemite to locate. For one, most vistors can't park near it. When it was first built, vistors could park right in front of the Vistor Center in its parking lot. Now most first time visitors will park at the Day Use Parking Lot (Camp 6) and either take a shuttle or have to figure out on their own how to get from the Day Use Lot to the Vistor Center by foot.
