On Wednesday September 19, 2012, starting at 5:30 pm there will be a temporary closure of the El Portal Road (Highway 140) between Cascade Creek and at Pohono Bridge, and from Cascade Creek on the Big Oak Flat Road to the Big Oak Flat Road/El Portal Road (Highway 140) junction. The roads will be closed in order to remove a large boulder from above the El Portal Road, just west of the El Portal Road/Big Oak Flat Road junction. Both roads are scheduled to reopen by 8:00 pm of the same day.

Due to increased risk of rockfall and the shock that the loud concussion for blasting operations could cause: by order of the Superintendent of Yosemite National Park and under authority of Title 36, Code of Federal Regulations, Section 1.5(a) and Section (a)(1 ): The following areas are identified as cliffs closed to visitor use, including climbing on September 19, 2012:
  • Reed's Pinnacle
  • Five and Dime
  • New Diversions
  • Mojo Tooth
Notices of climbing closures will be posted. Your cooperation in complying with these temporary restrictions is greatly appreciated. The designation will remain in place only for September 19, 2012.
