Re: Bishop campground rehabilitation project completed

After two years of construction the Bishop Field Office campgrounds have new updated assets. Crowley Lake, Tuttle Creek, Goodale Creek, and Horton Creek campground are now open and construction is complete. Crowley, Tuttle, and Horton now have potable water and dump stations. This project redesigned and rehabilitated four 40-year-old campgrounds managed by the BLM's Bishop Field Office. The work was done in two phases:

• Phase I: (1) Replaced the existing 23 vault toilets with new CXT SST type toilets (2) Construct wells to provide potable water sources at three of the five campgrounds.
• Phase II: (1) Rehabilitate campsites with pull-through sites, install steel fire rings and replace wooden tables with concrete tables at four campgrounds (2) Replace the landscaping water system at three campgrounds. (3) Replace the kiosks at four campgrounds.

“THe BLM Bishop Field Office would like to thank the public for their patience during this project,” said Becky Hutto, BLM park ranger. “We hope the public enjoys all of the new assets added to each campground.”

So what exactly are "CXT SST type toilets" you might ask?

They're still vault toilets, but vault toilets incorporating Sweet Smelling Technology (SST). These SST vault toilets are manufactured CXT, Inc., based out of Spokane, WA.

Well, at least by the time they got to horton creek they figured out the fire pits.

They are about 2 ft tall and have vents about 1 ft up. When you look at the design it is clear that they are intended to be buried in the ground up until the first vent (first post picture shows this clearly). Whoever contracted with BLM was lazy and did not do this. We showed up at Tuttle creek on the weekend they opened and tried to grill steaks over the firepit. With the grill about 1.5 ft above the fire. :/ Ended up piling rocks inside the fire pit in order to use the grill.

By the time they opened horton they had at least filled in the firepits with sand up to the vents.

Lazy.
