We only went to the point to get into the cave. The trail is trodden by so many peeps that
snowshoes are rarely required until you get to the very top... if at all...
You aren't quite in the BIG switchers at the turn down to the cave... but def. no snowshoes
required. In the past we have walked up to the top and camped up there
and have come down with snowshoes on to about the traverse area.
Normally snowshoeing where a zillion people are postholing is just a pain
in the rump though.
Much like Snow Creek Trail it's rare you have to bust the trail and not very common
to have to put snowshoes on until up on the rim.
If you bring some video enjoyment then going into sleepy bag at 5pm is no biggie.
(sorry foks but I can only stare at the stars for a few hours before needing some
modern technological enjoyment... thank you very much)

Ooo ooo I want to go behind the snow cone! So right before the big switch backs, I head down to the right, correct? Somewhere around the point on this arrow?

Don't get your hopes up too high. The cave is filling up with snow... and
the waterfall may make it quite dicey.

The reason that there is no shrubbery along the bottom of the face is that the snow slides down and piles up here every winter. It melts fast, too, against this natural reflector, but don't be surprised if the amount of snow here bears little relation to the amount on the trail...

By look at the photos... I meant your photos... and then to look at the video and see that
the gully you or your buddy is in is filled in with snow. And that you have to hike down that...
and that you will definitely want hiking sticks... and maybe something other than yaktrax.
Especially if the snow has become very hard.
Also bear in mind... I had to hike down that snow slope to get into the cave to get the
video above... and that the waterfall was much less then than it is now.
Anyway, we're on the same page... I just don't think you realize it.

Falling ice might be a problem too. It certainly makes enough noise.
I guess I should mention that I RAN into the cave when I went in there.
And if you turn the sound on... you can hear the BOOM in at least one of the videos.

Of course it depends where you start the measurement... but it's HUGE.
There's a warming trend now so it is probably shrinking as we are speaking.
