Yosemite to close Half Dome in 2013

Due to public outcry the iconic dome will be off limits to all in the upcoming 2013
hiking season. For more information please call the park at 867-5309.

No, it was because the Park Service was getting tired of finding drunks on top of Half Dome in the morning, hungover from the night before.

Fortunately the Curry Pizza Deck survived the axe and will now replace Half Dome as the iconic symbol of Yosemite.

I heard they'll be removing the cables from HD and installing them over the tables at the pizza deck so over-indulgers can pull themselves up...

I heard they have to keep people off Half Dome now because they are going to bring back the Fire Falls, but off of Half Dome this time instead of Glacier Point... But volunteers who want to carry wood for the Fire Falls up to the top of Half Dome in the morning will be allowed to make the ascent, on a lottery basis of course.

The cables will be closed in 2013 for an upgrade. They're going to install a second set of cables to increase capacity, eliminate the traffic jams and dangerous passing on the outside of the cables. Two way cables should eliminate the need for the permit system in 2014.

They still seem to be worshiping him. But I doubt they'd actually like his politics these days.

As long as 80% Dome remains open this should work fine.

Any word on whether the Tioga Road will be converted into a trans-sierra mountain bike trail this summer?

Half Dome is hollow on the inside and occupied. They are not happy with all the scratching sounds.

I tried to call 867-5309, but this is all that I heard.

Sierra Sun Times reporting that Congress passsed a bipartisan bill funding the construction of a pair of escalators (both up and down), to replace the very dangerous and outdated cable system.

Half Dome has to be closed off for re-alignment. It's oriented incorrectly making it un-photogenic.

They are taking down the cables to put in an escalator.

I heard it was for operations to control an infestation of exotic poultry.

I called Jennie and it turns out they decided to construct a large umbrella over the dome instead.
Park says it's so that the parades going up there will not be rained on.

Aint life grand?

Gee, separate up and down cable routes plus the really easy bypass route that goes all the way around Half Dome at 8,000'.
