Re: Caltrans Road Work Outside Yosemite on Highway 120

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform one-way traffic control on State Route 120 (SR-120) from Big Oak Sidehill Viaduct/near Buck Meadows to the end of the viaduct/before Forest Road for bridge work. This long-term one-way traffic control is scheduled to begin Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at 7:00 a.m., through Friday, September 20, 2013. Motorists should expect 5 minute delays. Alternate routes should be taken whenever possible. Construction is scheduled to begin as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/ or materials and construction related issues. This work is part of the $3.4 million SR-120 Tuolumne Bridge Deck Replacement Project which began on March 11, 2013. The project will replace the bridge decks on the Tuolumne River Bridge and strengthen the existing structure. The project is scheduled to be completed by 2014.

I thought they did some work on this bridge a few years ago already... (It's the bridge just past the "Rim of the World"/Jawbone ridge overlook heading toward Yosemite...)

Is this the bridge near the Cherry Lake turn off that goes over Rainbow Bridge?
How far on either side of the main bridge is this "from Big Oak Sidehill Viaduct/near Buck Meadows to the end of the viaduct/before Forest Road"?

Nope, it's a smaller bridge maybe a mile or so before (Yosemite-bound) this one. It's on the side of a hill, so it's not as obvious--except now it has stoplights hung over it...

Road work is never ending. I have to add 10-15 minutes to the drive time to account for it every year. Last year the section of Hwy 49 from Hwy 108 to Hwy 120 was closed in one direction and the beginning of Tioga Road had that water line installation going on. A couple of other years had repaving on 120 in the Buck Meadows area. A few year ago Priest Grade Road was closed for repaving and there was work being done at the intersection of Hwy 140 and Big Oak Flat Road.

Is there a traffic light now at this bridge? Or are they escorting traffic 24 hours a day through here?
