A TIFF file with massive jpeg artifacts. Why?

It's from 1933. It must be an artifact.

Heh, it was screen capture of an image in a PDF file. The screen capture program defaults to the TIFF format.

(Oh, and the PDF file was a digital scan of an issue of YA's Yosemite Journal I came across.)

I thought it was still called Tunnel View and originally called Discovery View.

I think we have had this discussion before. The first time I heard it called Discovery View was after they "restored" that area but that does not mean that this was not the name used first. On the Yosemite NPS website it is referred to as Tunnel View. Somewhere in my house is a book on Yosemite names and I will have to find it and see what it says.

At least now I won't have to go and look though boxes of books. My legs are short so they are harder to pull. smiling smiley

Ok. Now I'm not sure. Sigh. Was it first Tunnel View, then Discovery View, then back to Tunnel.
or Inspiration Pt, Tunnel View, Discovery View, Tunnel View.

Where's wherever?

I'm here. But I think that you are both wrong. Tunnel View is the view from inside the tunnel, as the original program showed. Discovery view is the view from the parking area.

I can see why they don't encourage people to stop in the tunnel to get a picture framed by the tunnel mouth....

The official name change to Discovery View occurred in August of 1989. Here's a link to the official USGS GNIS record of the name: GNIS: Discovery View

Tom Harrison doesn't think Tunnel, Discovery, or Valley View are worth any ink.

As the saying goes "No matter where you go, there you are." or "A tunnel by any other name would still have a view."
