Mono County is engaged in a search for a hiker named Matthew Greene who has been missing since July 17th, last seen in the Mammoth Lakes area. He is believed to have left from Mammoth, possibly via public transportation to a trailhead for a day hike possibly involving technical terrain. His destination is not known, however search efforts have been conducted by Mono County primarily in the Ritter/Banner area.
Yosemite Search and Rescue has been in frequent contact with Mono County SAR officials, and they do not believe Greene is in the park. However, they have requested we post missing person flyers in the Tuolumne Meadows area to alert hikers who may be traveling from there to the Mono County area or hiking from Tuolumne through the boundary into other more likely search areas in Mono County. Those flyers have been distributed.
The family of Matthew Greene has been organizing their own friends and family members to search for the subject in Mono County and through social media. Much of the media mentions Yosemite, but to date, nothing has indicated Greene is in the park. YOSAR will continue to work with Mono County and assist as requested
