Construction of a new bridge on the entrance road at the Fern Lake/Yost Lake Trailhead near June Lake is scheduled to begin on September 16, 2013. The culvert that was previously located on the entrance road was damaged from spring runoff after the winter of 2010/2011 and removed due to safety concerns. The new bridge will be a single lane with concrete abutments and a glue laminated timber deck and is designed to accommodate flood events. The Fern and Yost Lake trails are popular day hikes during the spring and summer and provide access to the Ansel Adams Wilderness. The bridge installation will restore vehicle access to the trailhead parking lot, allowing passenger cars and pickup trucks to park safely off the road. The bridge is tentatively scheduled to be open to traffic by the end of October 2013.
Hikers are advised to avoid the construction zone for their own safety.
