My husband and I did a quick overnighter to Ostrander Lake, thinking it would be a short uncrowded place to go the 3rd week of September. The hike up was very nice, not too steep at all through old burned areas and snapped off trees.
I was surprised to see old asphalt on the trial, put down how long ago?
There were wonderful views of the Clark range, Mt Star King and Half Dome
And once to the lake, the famous hut.
On getting our permit, we signed that we would have no campfires (we never have them anyway) and no smoking! But 3 out of 5 parties that were camped there had fires. I guess I'll never understand the mentality that some people feel they are the exception to the rule.
It was a great quick trip and satisfied our curiosity about Ostrander Lake.
