...Winter weather advisory in effect from 5 am wednesday to 5 am
Pdt thursday above 6000 feet...

The national weather service in hanford has issued a winter
Weather advisory above 6000 feet for snow and strong winds...Which
Is in effect from 5 am wednesday to 5 am pdt thursday for the
Higher elevations of the southern sierra nevada.

* snow accumulations: 2 to 5 inches above 6000 feet.

* elevation: above 6000 feet.

* timing: snow showers beginning tuesday night with heaviest
Accumulations occurring wednesday and wednesday night.

* locations include: yosemite national park area...Huntington
Lake....Lodgepole...Ponderosa

* winds: southwest 25 to 35 mph with gusts to 55 mph in the
High country.

* impacts: accumulating snow may impact travel on mountain roads
Including state route 120 over tioga pass.


Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A winter weather advisory means that periods of snow will cause
Travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited
Visibilities...And use caution while driving.

This sounds like it could close Tioga Road. Remember; there are no snowplows to clear off a few inches. They'll wait until it melts before reopening.

Since as of right now, the closing of Tioga Road would effect the economy of the Eastern Sierra communities much harder than Yosemite itself, it would be nice if Gov. Brown of California would be a bit proactive and offer the Park Service to plow Tioga Road for free using the Caltrans plows.

On the other hand, if it's just a few inches of snow, they could probably permit vehicle travel on Tioga Road with R3 (or even maybe R2) chain restrictions.

They'll close it the minute it gets slushy. They don't have the personel to partol the road.
