The Hetch Hetchy Road will be open today, November 6, but visitors should expect single lane closures. The road was previously scheduled to be closed today, but workers were able to complete pole replacement in one day on November 5.
The Hetch Hetchy Road remains open to visitor traffic while Hetch Hetchy Water and Power and AT&T continue to conduct utility repair operations along the roadway. The work to repair fire damaged electrical and communication infrastructure is expected to occur over the next couple of months. Visitors should expect single lane closures, and at times full closures, of the road as the utility repair is undertaken. Please drive slowly along the road and watch out for construction workers and stopped vehicles.
As of Tuesday, October 29, the trail from the O'Shaughnessy Dam to Wapama Falls and beyond is open. The backpacker's campground is also open. All other backcountry areas accessed from the trailheads along the Hetch Hetchy Road and O'Shaughnessy Dam areas will remain closed until further notice due to impacts from the Rim Fire. The closure notice is available at http://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/rimfire.htm.
