Thanks for posting. I have always wondered what those concrete blocks were for. Neat bridge. I wish it was still there but I doubt if it could handle the amount of people that now go to the park.

Is that east or west of the current bridge?

It's west of the current bridge. You can easily spot it a short distance off the paved bike path, heading back towards Yosemite Lodge.

Which way are you heading if you go from Swinging Bridge to Yosemite Village?

north-east. So I guess technically, the old swinging bridge is north of the current bridge. smiling smiley

The concrete that I have seen is upstream from the bridge just beyond the end of the bridge that is closest to Yosemite Lodge, not the picnic side. I thought that was the footing of the swinging bridge.

One indelible memory that I have of the old suspension swinging bridge is how some people would make the bridge jump and sway - while others were trying to cross. There were times that I chose to not use the bridge until the smart alecks had departed. I also recall the nearby depression that marked the basement of Galen Clark's Guardian office, but I believe the parking lot expansion has covered that over. While I'm at it, I recently encountered two other outdoor forums where the metal cutout trail signs were displayed. Those signs were the creation of the late William T. Kirk (1904-2003), older brother of my delightful partner, Jack G. Kirk (1906-2007) - the "Dipsea Demon." I learned all that I could from Jack and I wish he was available to share even more with this forum.
