A two part strong pacific storm is forecast to push into the west
Coast starting thursday morning then move inland thursday night.
The first part of this storm will affect northeast california...
Western nevada and the northern sierra from late thursday night
Through friday. This storm has a deep moisture tap associated
With it and could bring significant amounts of rain to northeast
California and the northern sierra friday. Snow levels are likely
To be very high with this storm. Snow accumulations are likely
On the highest peaks...But should be very limited below 8500
Feet.

Very strong and gusty winds are likely across western nevada
Friday. This should be the first high wind event of the season.
Damaging winds gusts are possible east of the sierra...Especially
From the highway 395 corridor east to near the highway 95
Corridor. Dangerous cross winds could make travel for high profile
Vehicles extremely difficult. Any outdoor decorations vulnerable
To high winds should be secured.

The second part of this storm system should affect the region
Sunday. Snow levels are likely to be a little lower with this
System in the sierra and gusty winds will develop once more
Across western nevada. Total precipitation amounts with this part
Of the system could be on par with the initial surge...Or a
Little higher. Another round of damaging wind gusts is also
Possible for western nevada late saturday night and sunday
Morning.

The national weather service in reno has issued a high wind
Watch, which is in effect from thursday evening through friday
Evening.

* timing: winds will increase late thursday afternoon and persist
Through friday.

* winds: southwest 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 60 mph are possible.
Gusts up to 70 mph are possible in the foothills and wind prone
Areas along highway 395.

* impacts: high profile vehicles should avoid highway 395 through
Eastern mono county. Winds will also result in severe turbulence
For aircraft flying through the region. Damage to trees, power
Lines, and property is possible with these wind speeds.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Now is the time to secure loose outdoor items such as patio
Furniture, holiday decorations, and trash cans before winds
Increase which could blow these items away. The best thing to do
Is prepare ahead of time by making sure you have extra food and
Water on hand, flashlights with spare batteries and/or candles in
The event of a power outage.

A two part pacific storm is forecast to impact the region
Beginning today with periods of strong winds and heavy sierra
Rainfall persisting through the weekend.

The first part of the storm will impact the region today and
Friday. For details on the strong and potentially damaging winds
Please refer to the latest high wind warning and wind advisory
Statements. Heavy rain in the sierra and northeast california will
Slow travel by creating slick roads and reduced visibility. Minor
Rock slides and ponding of water on roads may also occur.

The second part of this storm is forecast to arrive saturday with
Another round of strong winds for the eastern sierra and western
Nevada. A period heavy rainfall will move into the northern sierra
Saturday afternoon and evening with snow levels lowering to 8000
To 9000 feet. A final period of heavy precipitation in the sierra
Is likley sunday night and early monday with snow levels dropping
To 6000 to 7000 feet by monday morning. Precipitation should
Spread into western nevada sunday night and early monday with wet
Roads possible for the monday morning commute.

Significant impacts this weekend will remain focused on a
Potential high wind event saturday with additional travel
Difficulties for high profile vehicles and damage to trees...Power
Lines and property possible. Snow may briefly accumulate on the
Sierra passes above 8500 feet on saturday night, with a higher
Potential for travel delays in the sierra due to snow sunday night
And monday morning on interstate 80 and highway 50.
