...Rivers and Streams Continue to Flow Swift and Cold...

Cooler temperatures have reduced flows slightly on area streams
and rivers, but the water continues to run very fast and cold.
Later this week temperatures will rise again and this will
accelerate snowmelt. This accelerated snowmelt will once again
lead to higher flows on areas streams and rivers.

Some river systems, like the Truckee, may continue to have higher
flows through the week as reservoir management operations keep
flows elevated in anticipation of greater snowmelt.

Even with flows slightly reduced, there is still the possibility
of very minor flooding in low lying areas near the streams and
rivers, especially in the evening and overnight periods when flows
tend to peak.

Anyone walking along the banks of rivers and streams, or riding
along bike paths should be alert to weakness caused by recent
flooding or erosion.

River conditions can change due to higher than forecast
temperatures or increased reservoir releases. Be aware to the
possibility of any changes before heading out along area streams
and rivers.
