some where near El Portal etc... i'm going to sleep in my Honda Element (back seats taken out). i'd like to find a place for tomorrow if possible, it would HAVE to have a fire pit.

anyone know of a place???

Two things:

1) You don't remove the back seats to sleep in a Honda Element--you remove the front headrests, fold the front seats all the way back, then recline the rear seats all the way back. A decent sleeping pad on top helps a bit with the unevenness.

2) While there are campgrounds along 140 outside the park, some may be closed: https://yosemitenews.info/forum/read.php?3,93112. The ones on BLM land downriver from Briceburg may be an option.

You might want to see if there's a tent site available at the Indian Flat Campground at Incline on Hwy 140. It's only $20 a night during the offseason.

thanks Plawrence..... i actually stayed at Indian Flat on your recommendation... only 7 miles away from Hwy 140 entrance ... it is RIGHT next door to Cedar Lodge for anyone interested in its location...

there are only a few campsites with a fire ring. they are removing fallen trees etc, so the place is under construction.

We use a full size thick 10”? inflating air bed. Takes out all the lumps and bumps and is stupid comfy.

The only problem with this trick is figuring out where to put all the gear because the mattress fills practically the entirety of the car! But very comfy!

(Edited dimensions of air bed.)
