Strange title to a posting here. Are you encouraging people to head to Bishop? Because the article is about the problems that they're about to have there due to a bunch of people with a this-isolate-yourself-to-delay-the-spread-of-coronavirus-doesn't-apply-to-me attitude descending on Bishop en masse.

One of the New York papers reported last week about a similar phenomenon in the Hamptons: lots of folks decamping from Mahattan to there. The dynamic is slightly different, and in some ways worse: the locals in the Hamptons are poor, the folks from The City who own or rent second homes there are superrich, and they're not only bringing the virus with them and acting like they're on vacation, but they're also buying out all the supplies in the local stores...because they can. I don't think the demographic of the traveling climbing community is quite the same, but it sounds like the thoughtlessness is shared, at least among a significant percentage of both groups.

Stay home, people. The rocks were there long before any of us were and will still be there in six months or a year or five years from now. If you exercise some patience now, most of us can still be around to enjoy them later. And if you're looking for a quick thrill and quick death, climbing presents many opportunities for that, without endangering everyone around you.

Thanks, Geezer. We have decided not to visit our summer cabin during this quarantine period, for exactly the reasons you, and the article, describe. Health care is much more limited up there, and the last thing they need is more people drawing on those services.
