The Wilderness Branch is seeking 2-4 full time volunteers for the winter season. Volunteers will provide wilderness education through issuing overnight permits, conduct Nordic ski patrols, assist with snow surveys, and provide support to other projects in the Wilderness as time allows.

Volunteers will work from approximately mid-December through early April. Housing is very limited this year and may be provided on a case by case basis. Experience skiing and WFR/EMT certification is preferred but not required. Final selections will be made by the end of October. If interested in this opportunity, please send a resume detailing your wilderness travel, winter skills, and public speaking experience to jeff_webb@nps.gov.

Are there really people out there who would volunteer for that? Never heard of a "full time" volunteer.

This is not a year round position. That being said, yes there are people that volunteer full time. There are so many people that want to volunteer with the Yosemite Conservancy, that they now have to limit how many months you can volunteer to give others a chance to volunteer. For young people being a full time volunteer can lead to a paid position. For those that are retired but want to keep busy and also give back to society, full time positions give them the ability to do so.
