I just returned from a backpacking trip that ended at Glacier Point. It was the hottest trip in my 20 years of backpacking. Yesterday the temp at Glacier Point was about 90 degrees. It saw 113 degrees on my dash thermometer on highway 140 leaving the park!

I wanted to pass along two pieces of advice based on my experience in the heat:
1. It would be a good idea to take a water filter with you when hiking in the summer. There are lots of options out there that are inexpensive, easy to use and not heavy (Sawyer Squeeze is a good one). Especially if you are doing Half Dome - there is no treated water at the Little Yosemite Valley backpacker campground, but the Merced River is right there. It's not possible to carry enough water for the entire hike up Half Dome and back (3 liters is not enough), so best to be able to treat water on the trail.
2. Surprisingly, the asphalt at Glacier Point was too hot for me to stand on in bare feet, and it was the same for dogs. Something to think about if you travel with a pooch. It's not obvious to us humans with shoes.
