...AIR QUALITY IMPACTS FROM WILDFIRE SMOKE...
Smoke from the Tamarack, Dixie, Fly, and Bootleg wildfires will
continue to bring smoke and hazy skies along with poor air
quality to the region. The worst conditions remain immediately
downwind of fires. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Lake Almanor into Susanville and the Honey Lake Basin
- Reno, Minden, Carson City, Carson Valley, and Washoe Valley
- Far northern California and Nevada near the Oregon Border
Visibility reductions below 3 miles have occurred across multiple
locations along western Nevada and the Sierra today with many air
quality sensors reporting unhealthy to hazardous conditions.
Light winds today will result in persistent smoke and haze with
substantially degraded air quality. Some evening westerly winds
could reduce smoke for a few hours in portions of western Nevada.
However, northwest to north winds overnight will push ongoing smoke
plumes from fires in Plumas County (Dixie and Fly fires) back into
western Nevada and the Tahoe Basin.
Bottom line: what little (if any) clearing we get this afternoon
or evening will be the only improvement in smoke/haze and air
quality through the next 24 hours.
For the latest air quality information, please visit fire.airnow.gov
or check with your county air quality division. If you happen to
be in an area with poor air quality, try to limit outdoor activity
as much as possible.
