The Badger Pass A-frame is open and staffed 7 days/week by Wilderness staff to answer questions and issue Overnight Wilderness permits. A-frame hours are 8:00am-4:00pm, intermittently. Call +1 209 372-0408 for current ski/snow conditions.
End of Season: We are sad to report that the end of the Nordic season is upon us. Badger Pass and the Badger Pass Road will be closing for the season on Sunday March 31 at approximately 5PM. The gate at Chinquipin will be closed and locked until the Glacier Point Road opens to regular vehicle traffic after it has been plowed and is deemed safe for the public. It has been an exceptionally stellar year up here; we enjoyed ample storms throughout the winter bringing plenty of fresh snow, great ski touring conditions, and thanks to Yosemite's incredible Road Crew, constant access to this amazing place and Wilderness area. We hope you found an opportunity to get out onto our Nordic Route system, and that you maybe even discovered a new love of cross-country skiing.
Snow conditions: The Glacier Point Road is currently groomed all the way to Glacier Point. Following last weekend's storm, the snow has been struggling to transition back into spring mode. We have not quite had the weather conditions needed for the new snow to consolidate back into the corn snow of the prior week. With more winter weather incoming, it will be after our season is over before the spring snow returns. I suppose we will have to make do with a few more powder turns (and more difficult trail breaking) to close out the season. All trails are currently 100% covered and are broken with the possible exception of #23 Westfall Meadow and Taft Point trails. The current base depth at the A-Frame is 40". In the last week, we have received 15" of new snow with nearly 2" of additional water content. We should get very close to 100% of the April 1 average but some snow surveys are still being completed. Past weekly temperatures ranged from a low of 12 to a high of 55 degrees.
