Glacier Point Road is closed to the public at Chinquapin for spring plowing operations as of April 1. This includes all foot and bicycle traffic beyond the gate at Chinquapin.

Administrative traffic is not allowed beyond the Badger Pass turnoff until further notice. When the road opens for bicycle traffic it will be signed as open at Chinquapin.

Thanks for sharing.
I am wondering what's the option for grabbing wilderness permits once the GP road opens up. Hoping to grab some early season permits smiling smiley.

The window for permits has already opened.
Look for Yosemite wilderness permits on recreation.gov: https://www.recreation.gov/permits/445859

Thanks, appreciate the info.
Looks like the reservation window starts from Friday 5/24 for the trailheads around the GP Rd. Wondering what's the process for scoring permits prior to that if the Road opens up before May 24th. Have they allowed walk-in permits in the past?

For permits after late April, the reservations work like this:

"Wilderness Permit Reservations
Sixty percent of wilderness permit reservations become available by lottery 24 weeks in advance.
Of these, any remaining reservations after each week's lottery become available on a first-come, first-served basis the Friday after the lottery application period closes and are available up to three days in advance.
The remaining 40% of reservations become available seven days in advance (up to three days in advance)."[/b]

SO, if you want a late May permit, start looking on recreation.gov at 7:00 a.m. 7 days in advance.
My advice is be flexible on the start date: i.e. if your goal is to start on a Wed, try for Monday or Tuesday, and Thuursday or Friday as well.
