Can they use this to cancel the contract with Aramark and replace it with a competent concession operator that actually cares about providing services?by Not quite The Geezer, but getting there - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I agree with you, Coolburn. And I would argue that in the hypothetical, once you cross over Tioga Road and start heading up from the Sunrise Lakes TH on that first day, everything you did until that point becomes irrelevant - it's as if you just started on the SLTH that day, viz. on the wrong trailhead. And I'd bet that if you set up camp at Sunrise lakes, and a ranger asked to see your permit, yby Not quite The Geezer, but getting there - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Exactly. On your first day, you have to go in the right direction, at least the distance shown on the map https://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/upload/wildernesstrailheads.pdf, and spend your first night there. Afterward, go wherever you want, as long as you don't cross Yosemite Valley, which ends your permit. Are you talking about the TM campground (which one reserves through recreation.gov), or the platform tents east of the campground (on the other side of the river), aka "TM Lodge" or before that "TM HSC", which one reserves through Aramark (yosemitehospitality.com)? I was under the impression that the campground was still going to be closed this year: at https://www.nps.gov/yoby Not quite The Geezer, but getting there - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Passing through Yosemite Valley ends your permit. See https://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/wildregs.htm. Passing out of wilderness per se, e.g. by crossing Tioga Road or Glacier Point Road, does not end a permit.by Not quite The Geezer, but getting there - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

I appreciate the heads-up. I always try to let the campground office know as far in advance when I know I won't be using nights I've reserved. I have sometimes found a spot for myself at the last minute, but that's always been mid-week during the off-season.by Not quite The Geezer, but getting there - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. They run concessions at sports arenas. I didn't understand why (a) the contract at YNP with Delaware North was not renewed, and (b) why it was given to Aramark, of all companies. Aramark has shown repeatedly that it doesn't give a crap about people visiting Yosemite, doing anything it can to cut costs (and thus services). TM-area free shuttle? Nope, not even for a fee. You're wrong there with respect to "tuolumne lodge".
