QuoteStrix A friend of mine and his two sons did this route last year in August to celebrate his 70th birthday. I think it was 13-14 hours. I had advised them to bushwhack from the bottom of the switchbacks near the Q-Domes to the HD trail, which they did (no complaints). You could check that out on topos and Google Earth. I’ve got great hiking boots (Asolo Moran) but just heard some conflicting reports about possible “wading”. The hike is approximately 22 miles so I know I am biting off a lot. Unfortunately I can’t train much at altitude or hills (except I plan on hiking up and down building stairs with my pack) but otherwise am training like a marathon which I am skipping this year. Quotewherever Yes, they are missing a lot. No, I'd rather see that mob doing their thing on the Half Dome Trail than have them scattered throughout the park. It's great that you can leave the trail, headed for Quarter Domes or whatever, and after a hundred yards see no one and no garbage. Keep them bunched up on the trail is my desire... Everyone who thinks the restrooms every few miles are excessive should walk 10-15 feet off trail on either side for a while, after the half dome trail departs from the JMT. QuoteFrank Furter don't suppose you have the coordinates for that spring? I have heard the route described a few times and I found it in 1968 when I spend a month in Yosemite, but have not found it since. One more note on the map above. If you look at the trail E of "YOSEMITE" where it heads almost due W... E of that is where the stream starts that you get water from down below (that stream ALWAYS has water running) (it has fish in it) So... if you go E from that pt. Here's a map of routes we've done in the last few years. The route that zigs across w/o going up QD... I don't recommend that.. although that water course will have water until prob. July. It's even easier than what whatever said. Lookie on your map. See the really long switchback as you head up. You'll know when you are on that one. Well from the Western most portion of that switchy... just head due north and it'll be obvious. There is very minimal working around some shrubbery.
