I bake a batch of vegetable lasagna and then dehydrate it; my favorite dinner on the trail. I also like a salmon pesto pasta dish that is dehydrated except for the salmon in a foil pouch. I also have a standard breakfast casserole dish that I dehydrate to mix with instant grits (hey, I'm from Georgia!).by QuailHiker - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
View from Hamilton Lake:by QuailHiker - General Discussion
I'd echo Bill-e-g's comments. There is a fairly large camping area just down from the High Sierra Camp that you could use as a base camp. Hamilton Lake up to Kaweah Gap is manageable as a (long) day hike, with great views. If you have enough time, head down from the gap into Nine Lakes Basin. Redwood Meadow is a totally different change of pace, and an easy hike. We were there in September, soby QuailHiker - General Discussion
Is anyone aware of a similar source for Olympic National Park?by QuailHiker - General Discussion
I tend to agree with CaT. Coming down that part of the trail in September with full packs, I felt those sections were very slippery with the "loose grit and sand."by QuailHiker - General Discussion
I've finally compiled a trip report from our journey last month from Tuolumne to the valley: http://www.summitpost.org/view_object.php?object_id=339506 The route is, I'm sure, very familiar to many of you, but for us it was all new and a joy. Thanks to those of you who helped with trip planning.by QuailHiker - General Discussion
I would like to post a report of our trip in early September. I know that several of you have posted reports with both text and photos. Any recommendations on the best sites that 1) support a good number of photos, and 2) offer good opportunity to annotate photos and provide supplemental text?by QuailHiker - General Discussion
They were both flowing as of last Monday. I've only seen them twice (both at this time of year) but the flow was certainly not overwhelming!by QuailHiker - General Discussion
I can confirm you can take your stove in checked luggage. We have flown out west the past three years: two of us with isobutane stoves and one with an MSR Whisperlite that uses white gas. My friend with the Whisperlite brings two small fuel bottles and buys gas when we arrive. No problem with the airlines. The only regret is he's been unable to find a quart or so of gas, and instead has had tby QuailHiker - General Discussion
In September three of us will be taking a trip starting at Tuolumne and ending up in the valley. We'll be heading down the Lyell Fork, then up to Vogelsang, and then down to Merced and out that way. Two questions about the route for those who are familiar with the area: 1. I understand there are campsites at the intersection of the JMT and the Vogelsang Trail heading up toward Ireland Lake, buby QuailHiker - General Discussion
