It is really upsetting from a standpoint that you mentioned, so many people came from a very long distance to see the Sierra's, specifically Yosemite that I have talked to today. It has been emotional for me for so many reasons. I grew up outside Chicago, my furthest destination for vacation growing up was Missouri or Wisconsin, I never saw mountains until 2003 when I came here for a vacation witby highsierra1 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Saw about a dozen at parkline driving in this morning. I too can't be a part of such gatherings but definitely honked going by to show my support! Party lines aside we all and our gateway communities just want to work and share our beautiful home with visitors. It's quite depressing to see this place so empty but the drive in today was smooth sailing for a Saturday! The wildlife are definitely enby highsierra1 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. JohnC-your reservation for tomorrow should have been canceled today and refunded. If you have any questions I am more than happy to help you after 230 pm tomorrow at the Curry Front Desk, 209-372-8333. Just know it may take a few days for you to see the refund back to your card. There is great lake fishing around all those areas. I've seen some big fish get pulled out of Evelyn Lake which is about 1.5 miles from Vogelsang, but there is fishing all around there on down to Merced Lake. Bring your rod!by highsierra1 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

@ Paris92-No I'm not! I had a heck of a time finding work after the camps closed last year...4 months looking. Finally got a year round position in Janurary so I am 'stuck' in the valley. First summer season since 2008 I won't be there. Always check for cancelation for the HSC's, they happened and if your willing to make last minute plans you can still go up. It is Memorial Day weekend. Daily Lottery Approximately 50 permits will be available each day by lottery during the hiking season. These permits will be available based on the estimated rate of under-use and cancellation of permits (the exact number may change through the summer). Going rate to carry a pack in the park?...depends on how far...but in the back country we charged $200 round trip( apprx.10 to 18 miles total) You can find staff that wanna make extra dough on their days off to do it if you set it up in advance...and are willing to pay for it.by highsierra1 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. They are not. From the NPS website: Pets If you choose to bring your pet to Yosemite, please abide by these regulations: Pets are only allowed in developed areas on fully paved trails and roads except trails signed as not allowing pets (pets are not allowed off the floor of Yosemite Valley, including the trail to Vernal Fall) in campgrounds (except Tamarack Flat, Porcupine Fby highsierra1 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Trail is in perfect shape, totally dry with the exception of some stream crossings along the way. There is a lot of snow from Vogelsang Lake and up to the pass is completely snow covered, I've been cautioning people to use extra care if they are attempting to bag Vogelsang Peak because it is very snowy up there still. Merced Lake opens Thurs. at 12:00. p.m. Status on the rest of the camps is still in a holding pattern with hopes to go into May Lake next week and open the 6th. Vogelsang the 13th and Sunrise after that. To be clear, DNC has been trying very hard to open the HSC's this season. More like a BIG disaster. I still will never understand why they did that "prescribed burn" that day. I thought it was a joke as people came in telling me they were seeing smoke 20 miles away and me calling it in to hear it was a set fire in August on a nasty hot day. Shameful. Yes. Get away from the valley for sure! Hit trails up and above, leave early and come back after the traffic subsides.
