Hey everyone, just thought I'd post a few pics from a trip I took last week in Yosemite. Day 1: Mirror Lake to May Lake Day 2: Hiked Mount Hoffmann in the morning, headed over to Sunrise/Cathedral area and camped at the HSC Day 3: Sunrise Lakes to Clouds Rest and down the JMT to the valley. Smoke was not bad but was noticeable at times Pics Here : https://picasaweb.google.com/11702by ckm554 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

There are some areas you can camp along the trail to Merced Pass lakes near Illilouette Creek. The trail stays fairly close to the creek for most of the way. Definitely take pics and post a report!by ckm554 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
As mentioned you should have no problems at all. I was up there in late June last year and snow was a total non-issue. Zero snow on the south side and just a little on the North side. Snow levels are very similar this year. June 30, 2012by ckm554 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Hey, yea I did that last year in May and it was a great spot to spend the night. The closest water is about a mile away from the dome in Royal Arch Creek but its definitely worth carrying the extra weight for the view. In order to be totally legal I believe you have to be a half mile or so from the rim. There are a few established campsites in the trees right on the trail before you get up on theby ckm554 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
@plawrence It wasn't crowded at all especially once I got past the horizon ridge trail head. Nobody else was at Washburn while I was there but a few people arrived right after me @chickon Nice. I took a few panoramas on my phone but it didn't do a very good job at stitching them together @ttilley Yea thats it, there were also few others up near Clark Range View. It's melting fast,by ckm554 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Hello everyone, I skied out to Washburn point this Sunday and thought I'd post a brief trip report and a few pics for those who are interested. Left badger at around 10am and I got to Washburn at around 1. The snow on the road was definitely thin in places but better than last year. Unless we get a big storm I could see GP road opening in late April or very early May. Weather was great, warm enouby ckm554 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I've done half dome before and after the permit system. While the crowds have gone down slightly since the permit system was put in place when I went up this past summer the half dome trail was basically a line of people going up. It was not the usual pass by someone else every once in a while but a constant single file line of hikers going up and down the trail. The cables however were not bad aby ckm554 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

There were a few blowdowns on the trail to Buena Vista but that was it. I'm not sure about the mess before Washburn that was out there in June as I bypassed it by going down Red Peak Fork. I would guess they cleared that up by now but who knows. Chrisby ckm554 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Hey everyone, this is a report from a trip I did in early August 2012 through the Clark Range. Day 1: Mono Meadow to Buena Vista Lake The hike to Buena Vista turned out to be harder than expected in part due to the fact that I ran out of water a few miles from the lake. Eventually I made it and had enough time to bag Buena Vista Peak before sunset. Day 2: Buena Vista Lake to Ottoway Lake vby ckm554 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I don't think it would be common for temps to go below freezing at 7k feet in Sept. At least not until late Sept. The 7-day forcast for 7,200 feet in the area of Bridalveil Creek calls for highs in the 70s and lows around 50. Of course it could go below freezing any time of year but I doubt the average low in Sept for the Bridalveil Creek campground is below freezing. You will find water at the junction of the JMT and Clouds Rest trail in Sunrise Creek. There is a spring just off the Half Dome trail but I've never tried to find it myself. Yep that was me by the outhouse. I left Merced at 7 in the morning. Was wondering about the shirt, at first I thought it was a patch of snow. Next time I'll probaby take an extra day and to relax and do some fishing, like I said it was a little rushed in 3 days. Hey all, Did a trip to Ottoway Lake, over Red Peak Pass and looping back to Mono Meadow along the Merced River. Started on June 30 and returned on July 2. Taking only three days was probably a bit rushed but not too bad. Camped night 1 at Ottoway Lake and night 2 at Merced Lake. Snow was not a problem anywhere on the route but there was an AMAZING number of trees down a few miles before Washbuby ckm554 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Hey everyone, I imagine the North side of the pass is mostly snow free by now but I would be interested in any reports if anyone has been over in that area recently. Thinking about heading out there next week. Thanks Chrisby ckm554 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Most all of your questions can be answered here: http://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/wildregs.htm I wouldn't worry about leaving gear in camp if you aren't too close to the trail. But dishonest people are out there. You can get your permit and rent a bear canister at the visitor center at the Big Oak Flat Entrance station if you're coming from the North. I took the trail along Lehamite Creek as opposed to the trail along Indian Ridge and filled up at Lehamite before hiking to North Dome. However Royal Arch Creek was flowing and I could have filled up there. According to the Nat Geo map it is actually shorter? But mostly I didn't want to have to hike back down to get water once I got to the dome. Chrisby ckm554 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I went on an overnighter on the North Rim this Monday/Tues. Started from Mirror Lake, spent the night on North Dome and exited Yosemite Falls on day two. Snow was virtually nonexistant on the entire North Rim and trails were clear and easy to follow. After seeing how little snow there was I was determined to head up to Tuolumne and have a look at conditions there. I hiked up to May Lake, which waby ckm554 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada.
