I took a short trip this weekend to Lake Vernon and Rancheria Falls. I started from the Beehive Meadow trail and hiked to Vernon where I spent the night. Saturday I hiked south to Tiltill Meadow and then Rancheria Falls. I planned on a second night at Rancheria but got there at about 2pm so I just hiked back to the dam. Hey, I had a question for you all regarding camping at the high sierra camps as a backpacker the first night of a trip. For example, I once started a trip from Mirror Lake, went up the Snow Creek Trail and camped at the May Lake backpackers camp on my first night. This wasn't a problem. If its just a few miles I'll just take 120 but if I'll need the chains on for 20miles or so it might make more sense to take 140. I realize conditions are always changing and chain control levels are as well, but since driving with chaiby ckm554 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
