I probably come from the other side of the spectrum. When they say "no structures are threatened," I think "drats!" If they let the structures burn and saved the forest, we'd have... More WILDERNESS! Maybe we should make like the Indians, burn down Yosemite Valley every fall after we pick the apples, chase the DNC out.by QITNL - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Yeah - both. I was up on Red Peak the afternoon prior. Saw the plumes of smoke from behind Starr King that had been burning for the last two months - nothing else. It was really windy Saturday night into Sunday. I thought that had sparked up. The wind had been changing directions fairly dramatically, the typical winds from the west, then winds from the north (high pressure zone up in OR/WAby QITNL - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. I went down there for the first time a couple of weeks ago to meet a buddy driving up from LA. Equidistant. Father's day. Totally winged it but all the paperwork worked out fine. Wonderful smogsets. I think this is where hamburgers come from. Big-ass trees with Flintstone signs. Thanks guys. Snow was patchy from Tioga Road on up. It was pretty cold so I didn't sink much. I'd guess maybe 4ft in shady spots higher up. It looks like there's a little more coverage at higher altitudes than there was a month ago, some of the recent little storms may have helped. A little more snow than recent years, I think, once you get above 9.000ft. Should be set up soon as nice Sierraby QITNL - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

The Sierra Point trail has seen a lot more use in recent years which I would attribute largely to the Internet. Trail improvements supplied by Google. My annual warning: If you are on this trail, pay a healthy measure of respect to gravity, not for your sake but those who may be under you. You may not be able to see them. 1) Much of the trail is very, very loose. Moreover, it zig-zagsby QITNL - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Thanks, folks. Torero - I pretty much stuck to the trail from Mono Meadows trailhead to Buena Vista Lake and wandered around on a ridge west of the trail. I finally had a chance to sort through some pictures from Glacier Point Road / Sentinel dome, 3/7/14. Last weekend I went up Simmons Peak. You can see it from everywhere so it has good views, but hardly anyone goes up there. Last year only two people signed the log book. There isn't much snow left. Mosquitos were pretty tame around the meadows, annoying from Tuolumne Pass to Vogelsang Pass, not too bad after that. There goes the neighborhood.... I appreciate you folks are trying to be helpful, but Harden Flat Road is already getting pretty crowded. Somewhat trashed, even. Last year there were some huge RV's that seemed to be parked there for weeks at a time. That's why I sent hegel a map and similar info via email.
