Where are you staying? We are staying in a place in Springdale. Like walking to dinner in the evening. We want to check out real estate in the area for potential retirement home. Does anyone here live around Yosemite? We kind of like Oakhurst but havent really checked it out. Thanks for the ideas.by madmxe - General Discussion
We like to do 10 to 14 mile day hikes,3000 ft gain or so. We were there 5 years ago and just started our hiking careers. It seems like most of the hikes were shorter or backpacking hikes. Its really great to get up to date info from a forum like this instead of reading a trip report from someone who hiked a trail years ago. Angels Landing is something we want to do as long as there is no ice.by madmxe - General Discussion
We are going to Zion in March and I cannot find a forum like this one for that park. Anyone know of one? Thanks.by madmxe - General Discussion

Just a gorgeous bird Indeed it is. I saw one up in Alaska. There is no thinking what kind of bird is that. It is a Bald Eagle. Period. Great pictures!by madmxe - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Can you finish the story of the one with the boys? What did they do and did the bear keep advancing toward them? That bear looks kind of serious about something.by madmxe - Photography advice, critiques and tutorials

David I was about 60 feet away I would guess. The 400 was in my backpack and my wife quietly got it out thru the side pocket and handed it to me. This bobcat was not too worried about us though. I took about 10 pictures.by madmxe - Photography advice, critiques and tutorials

Why do they close Glacier Point? Last week on the 41 we saw snow plows everyday driving up and down the 41 which was clear. I wondered why they couldnt be plowing Glacier Point. Still one of the best views in the park.by madmxe - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Just got back today and thought I would share what we did for the 5 days. Again thank you for all the suggestions. I wish we had more days to do them all. 1. Hiked to Nevada Falls. A little slippery the last quarter mile but well worth it. A hike up the Mist Trail about 5 years ago started us hiking and I always wanted to go a little farther. We also saw a bobcat just past Vernal Falls on this hby madmxe - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Thanks again. I have a pretty good idea we can still get 5 good days of hiking in. See you out there!by madmxe - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Appreciate the tips and we will try to do the Loop Trail on Thanksgiving basibop. Look for man, a woman and a happy teenage boy. Buy you a drink if we meet. What about Yosemite Falls? I cant really figure out what the snow level is from up there. And my son is wants to do Chilnualna Falls. Any thoughts on that? Again I appreciate all the advice. You all have a great holiday.by madmxe - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Was hoping you all don't mind a couple of questions. My wife, son and myself are going to be spending Thanksgiving week in the Yosemite area. We are not prepared for snow hiking and I am thinking that some hikes around the valley might be the way to go. Would appreciate some suggestions on hikes where the snow would be minimal. We wanted to come up Tioga Rd but this weekends weather looks prettyby madmxe - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
