I will be driving to San Francisco next Friday morning, returning Sunday. If it is a clear day, I would like to see if I can see the Half Dome view from the Patterson area. Can I see it at an exit near I-5 near Patterson?by snorkus - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
My boys (7 and 11) and I had a great trip to Tuolumne; My wife couldn't go because of work. Got there on a rainy Sunday morning about 9 AM. Lots of people were leaving, so I knew that getting to stay to Thursday would be OK. We drove around the A loop, looking for sites that didn't have huge puddles. We ended up in site A55, with a great view of Lembert Dome and the river. I usually sleby snorkus - General Discussion
Are there a lot of mosquitoes in the TM area? I'll be there Sunday.by snorkus - General Discussion
Quotemugstump ... It would be one step forward to try to apologize but setting the record straight. Maybe he would rest. Apologizing for past generations does nothing. The best that we can do is learn from the past and teach ourselves and our youngsters to be the best that they can.by snorkus - General Discussion
eeek, not sure if I want to actually catch one, but it would make their day. I suppose catch and release is an option, or sell the fish to someone in the campground.by snorkus - General Discussion
I'm going to TM week after next. (Thanks to those who gave me tips in a previous post). My boys (11 and 7) want to fish. I am not a big fisherman (or fisher of men, for that matter). Where are good and easy places to fish? Tenaya Lake? Ellery Lake? Other? Just found this link: http://www.yosemitepark.com/Activities_RaftingWaterSports_Fishing.aspx Licenses for 16 and older, can be boughby snorkus - General Discussion

All, Thanks for the replies. So when I check in, do I just tell the kiosk person that we would like to stay several days past our reservation? I might have to hit my wife in the head with something hard. She has a pretty hard head.by snorkus - General Discussion
Unfortunately, we won't be up there until 9 AM that morning. We are driving up from Los Angeles; I am planning on leaving LA at 3 AM. Unless I can talk my wife into spending the night in Bishop.by snorkus - General Discussion
I've got a 1 night reservation (that was all I could get) for at TM campsite on Sunday, Aug 23rd. But, I would like to stay until Thursday morning. With the 50% reserved/50% first come-first served policy, what are my chances of getting another 3 nights. When I check in on that Sunday, will they let me just stay in the same campsite? If there is no available sites other than the first night,by snorkus - General Discussion
Does the bus from Yosemite lodge to Tuolumne Meadows still run? How much does it cost? Will it drop you anywhere that you like? I seem to remember that on my trips(long ago) to Tuolumne Meadows where I would start a few days trip back to the Valley. My brother wanted to take my sis-in-law to Yosemite for a few days. My brother is a very experienced backpacker. He wants to take my sis-in-lby snorkus - General Discussion
I've only driven past Porcupine Flat going from TM to theYosemite Valley, but never stopped in the campground. I've never seen Yosemite Creek, but looking at my Yosemite map, I see that an unpaved road leads to it. How is that road?by snorkus - General Discussion
I found out from the wife that I (maybe we) can take the boys (7 and 11) camping in August. We love Tuolumne Meadows; camped there with reservations 2 years ago, and a few times many years before that. My questions are: What is the best day of the week to show up without reservations? If I wait around the morning that I show up and don't get in, what are options for camping nearby? I preferby snorkus - General Discussion
My 6 year old made it, and he wanted to keep going to the top of Nevada Falls. We had lunch next to the Silver Apron above Emerald Pool. Then we took the JMT down. Boy, it seemed a lot longer than I remember; last did that portion of the JMT about 15 years ago. They want to go to Kings Canyon. Anyone know of any forums for Kings Canyon and Sequoia?by snorkus - General Discussion
My boys are excited about the Mist Trail; will be on it in about 6-7 hours. I haven't been to Yosemite in 2 years. I'm very excited, even though it is 3 AM.by snorkus - General Discussion
I've been up there amany times, going to the top of Half Dome three times. My 10 year old made it to the top of Vernal Fall 2 years ago. I was just worried that if it is cold (on top of getting wet on the Mist trail) might make it a miserable experience, especially for my younger one. I'll play it by ear, depending on the weather.by snorkus - General Discussion
Next Friday, I'm taking my boys (10 and 6) to Yosemite for 1 day. I want to take them on 1 good hike. From the NPS website, I see that the Mist trail is closed at the JMT. In all my times to Yosemite, I've never taken the Yosemite Fall trail. I know they couldn't go all the way to the top of Upper Yosemite Fall. How hard is that trail to the top of the Lower Fall? Or can you not get a view of thby snorkus - General Discussion
Then TM tomorrow. Thanks for everyones tips over the last month.by snorkus - General Discussion
How early is early? I was thinking by 8 AM. I can get up earlier(coming from Mammoth), but it is the wife and kids that I have to get moving. For work, I get up at 3:30 AM, so I am sure my body clock will be getting up earlier anyway. Post Edited (08-10-07 20:15)by snorkus - General Discussion
I will be at TM on Monday morning, and was planning on the A loop. I haven't been there for 13 years , but I seem to remember that was a good place bac then. Your guys stories make me definitely want that area.by snorkus - General Discussion
I don't like them using me as part of their food chain.by snorkus - General Discussion
Does anyone have a website to catch weather conditions specifically for Tuolumne Meadows? I am going to be there on Monday, Aug 13. I have been looking at the Yosemite Today site, which directs to the National Weather service.by snorkus - General Discussion
'No mosquitoes' makes me happy. We are going to TM on Monday, and my wife wasn't going to be happy with swarms of mosquitoes. I had posted about a month ago, asking about mosquito repellent. Thanks for all of your tips.by snorkus - General Discussion
When I go to 395.com, it brings me quickly to another screen, asking for a password.by snorkus - General Discussion
Does anyone have any kitschy/corny/educational/neat stops driving up 395 from LA to Tuolumne Meadows, and back? We are leaving next Sunday morning, and going to spend a night in Mammoth, then Monday through Friday at TM. My wife and kids have never been up there going up 395. I plan on going to Devils Postpile, possibly Manzanar. Any recommendations for breakfast or lunch? Post Edited (08-06-by snorkus - General Discussion
Just curious. Of all my times to Yosemite, I have never heard why it is called White Wolf. I am going to TM next week, and I know that my boys will ask that question if they see the sign.by snorkus - General Discussion
Thanks. Is there any ban on fires in the fire rings at individual campsites? It looks like some of the sites have firerings, but not all?by snorkus - General Discussion
Does anyone have a specific campsite that they try to get in Tuolumne Meadows? Both times that I have been there(not for 12 years), I have stayed in the Loop A sites because they were closer to the river/forks. Going there Aug 13. Post Edited (07-28-07 16:06)by snorkus - General Discussion

Thanks for that news. We will be there 4 weeks from today. Like I said in the my first post in this thread, I want this camping experience to be as pleasant as possible for my wife.by snorkus - General Discussion
