I always make fruit leathers, and I'm ALWAYS sick of them after 2 or 3 days. I too, often end up trying to get other people to take them off my hands.by sierranomad - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Quotemrcondron I would guess reasonable is when the seller is happy with the price he is getting and the buyer is happy with the price he is paying. It doesn't matter what the product is. Yes, I agree. I'd never spend $100 for lunch. Fortunately there are other options in the Valley, so you don't have to.by sierranomad - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Food report. We didn't go to Buck Meadows for breakfast because they didn't open until 8:00 a.m. and that was too late (we ate breakfast at a Jamestown place, Woods Creek Restaurant. The food was exceptional and reasonably priced. Everyone else there seemed to be locals...the waitress knew everyone by name. Very nice. We ate supper at Buck Meadows and it too, was a good find. Had a great time there today. There was no snow in the Valley, but still a wonderful day. The air was brisk, the sky was crystal clear and in the afternoon some impressive, dark, ominous clouds moved in. Made for a GREAT sunset.by sierranomad - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Aah, Yes! That was it. I've been in there, but haven't actually eaten there. It seems relaxed and friendly. I think that's where we'll go.by sierranomad - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Heading to Yosemite this Saturday and we want to eat breakfast on the way. There's a restaurant (cabins nearby) past Groveland but I can't remember the name of it; and I've never eaten there. Anyone know its' name so we can find out what time they open? Also, how's the food? Thanks, JOnby sierranomad - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Yeah, that's why I went ahead and mentioned it. Yosemite is such an incredible place. It has such a draw on you that reaches into your very being. I was sure that I wasn't alone...especially on this forum. Jonby sierranomad - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

QuoteAlmostThere Some people think putting the clothes in the bag with you at night will dry them - it probably works if they aren't drenched. I personally wouldn't do this because I'm obsessed with being comfortable at night (I don't mind being somewhat uncomfortable during the day as long as I know that I can be warm & dry when I go to bed.) QuoteBee the rest is negotiable (because it will be DRY) If you mean that YOU will be dry because of the jacket, ok, but if you're saying there will be no precipitation...? Can't guarantee that in TM in June. I've encountered some pretty blustery weather and snow there into July (just the way I like it). To the OP: It looks like you're getting a lot of different (but valid) opinions. Aby sierranomad - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
So that's you Mike? I do understand about not wanting to go through the hassle of wading across (taking off boots, socks. Tying them to your pack, etc). During our JMT hike in July there were days we waded through so many streams we got fed up and took some unadvisable "bridges". Ended up taking a couple of unplanned dips in the river.by sierranomad - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Hi All: One of the drawbacks of hiking solo and keeping to myself on the trail is that when I come across new names while looking at maps, books, etc, I come up with a way to pronounce that word in my head, but don't know if I'm right. So, how do you pronounce "Chilnualna" (as in Chilnualna Falls)? I feel silly when I do bring it up in conversation and I find out I've gotten it aby sierranomad - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Winter is becoming my favorite season. The same majesty. A hushed silence/reverence fills the air - along with jack frost nipping at your ears and nose. An occasional CRACK from ice breaking loose and tumbling to the valley floor. Snow that carpets the meadows and covers the trees. The crunch, crunch of snow under your feet. I don't know. My hiking companion and I did. When we were walking through Trail Camp (?) a ranger was checking with everyone to make sure that they had them. One of my favorites is easy and filling: mac & cheese. I dehydrate beans. Have burritos for the first few days; after the tortillas are gone I use the beans as a side dish. Very practical. I recently found what has already become a favorite: hamburger rocks, : http://www.greenspun.com/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg.tcl?msg_id=000pEx Tastes like fresh meat when re-hydrated. Aah, yes. Elephants on the bridge when you're trying to film. My passion is animal shots. Not long ago I was on the bridge filming (video) an American Dipper. I'd wanted to get one actually diving under water for some time; and of course, since you never know when they're going to do it, you just have to film them, and film them, and film....
