Correct Vince. As you know Fremont met Winnemucca. Chief Truckee took Fremont to present day Stockton, and then to San Jose. That is why Sarah Winnemucca went to school in San Jose. lol...if you are a taxpayer, you do give money to the Southern Miwoks. They get PAID for services by Yosemite, yet many of the leadership work or worked for the Park. The Chairman actually works for Yosemite NPS and gets paid for Miwok "services". Yes, They have to show they were a cohesive community from first contact. They changed that to 1900. The one major problem is in 1900 there were mainly Paiutes in the Park. Later on others came in. They did not get along as they claim but there was infighting between the two major groups of in the group, the Yokuts and the Paiutes. Old article appeared in a historical periodical called the Pony Express, which was published at one time in the town of Sonora, in Tuolumne County. The article says that the original Native people of Yosemite were war like Paiutes and not the docile Miwoks as has been falsely written. I don't know if any people know or have heard of Cowboy poetry, but someone many, many years ago wrote a poem that came out in an old publication that is no longer in print called the Pony Express. The signs in the Yosemite Indian Village are in Southern Sierra Miwuk and Central Mewuk. The big block in the bottom is in Southern Sierra Miwuk and Central Mewuk. The signs make it appear that the original Native Americans of Yosemite were Miwoks. One note here There is no record of Central Mewuks being in Yosemite Valley prior to whites entering the Valley. You will see a lot of dogs in old photos of Indian people. There is a story of Paiutes hiding from soldiers in Nevada in the marshes. They hid in the cattails and kept really quiet. One was an old lady and her little dog and she would not let go of her little dog and it was barking at the soldiers, well they found her because of the barking and shot and killed her. I talked to one elder and they told me that many of the pictographs or petroglyphs were like signs for other Paiutes or like a map with what is located there. Some are spiritual to draw food to them or to tell others what is in the area. Some have stories.There are different types.
