Any driving restrictions on height, length, etc. to be concerned with? Tunnel restrictions? It seems to there there's a highway or two missing from your route. Great Whites do not "attack" sea lions, they feed on them. If you go in the water and do not look or act like a sea lion, the shark will ignore you (mostly).by Dave - General Discussion
On the July 4th weekend - stay out of the park. IF you can get into the Valley, expect the loop to take several hours of stop and go traffic. Saturday will be the worst. I'm going to check out the Sierra Vista Scenic Byway that weekend.by Dave - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Someone asked me to post a bit about llamas and packing with them. Yes, they spit. Horses kick or bite, mules too. Dogs bite. Cats scratch...... My llamas do not spit at people (unless you really deserve it). They spit at each other over food or personal space. A well conditioned pack llama weighs about 300 pounds. They can carry one third of their weight. They are very efficient with theirby Dave - General Discussion
Check BEFORE you go. The road might not be opening as scheduled. A blocked culvert was discovered early this morning (Friday). If they cannot get it unplugged or if the road bed is damaged, they won't open the road. Check first.by Dave - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I hope everyone reads this thread before heading out. When I was leaving work this afternoon Tioga was still closed and NOT going to open Saturday morning. A culvert was clogged with ice causing the water to back up, forming a lake, and washing over the road. They have to clear the ice then check to make sure the road bed is still intact. From what I can see, there is not much room in El Portal for a visitor center. For traffic flow and safety reasons, it would be best to put it on the south side of Hwy 140. Too close to the river. I know the site they are thinking about and it is perfect. Right side of the road, on the way to the park, and lots of room with not much of an impact on the environment.
