QuoteAlmostThere I would like to see, in one of these articles, the numbers of deaths vs. the number of rescues that result in the person going home alive. I bet people would realize pretty quick that there are surprisingly few deaths in Yosemite, relatively speaking. I don't want to start an enviromentalist fight: but have Bay area residents who are also enviromentalists forgiven the Hetch Hetchy flooding that Muir fought against? Or is there still a grudge? I know the history I just haven't seen any modern day discussion.by chicagocwright - General Discussion
Camp Curry and Curry Village aren't different enough to matter. But if Yosemite sold the vending rights to Hyatt, Marriot, etc. we would all still call it Camp Curry or Curry Village no matter what Marriot decided to rename it...And to reiterate, if Marriot wants to pay thousands or millions of dollars to put up a sign that says Marriot Village I'm all for that. I call it PacBell Park also and I've never been there. It's the accepted name. The tenant or current Sponsor has nothing to do with it. But everyone in Chicago knows the building as the Sears Tower and will continue to call it that no matter what corporate entity buys it. Quoteplawrence Quotehotrod4x5 You guys crack me up. When it was built, it was a high Sierra camp. At some point someone changed the name. Should we still call Cape Canaveral, Cape Kennedy? Hmm, the travails of date sequencing instead of conversation threading. Thanks Chick-On. I should have realized you would have known and answered the question. Somehow I missed it. Is there a story on why there isn't one on Half Dome? Did someone steal it? I could see that it could be stolen multiple times as a souvenir so maybe Yosemite decided to just not place one. There is a lot of great information on this thread so far and will re-visit it and the Mt. Whitney research in a few weeks. Until then I will be pre-occupied with a newly planned trip back to Yosemite at the end of this month! I'm joining Wickett on one of his plans so I need to devote some time to that trip and come back to next years Mt. Whitney trip later.
